Personal Tips - main list
|
This page will provide small tips and reminders that will help you with your visa application. All the following is from the personal experiences of myself and others who have made visa applications... don't make the same mistakes as some of us did!!
General Tips:
- If applying in person, the process is no less stringent than by post, so make sure you have ALL your supporting documents (and more), and there won't be a question where you don't know the answer. Have all the reference numbers, copies of important documents, etc etc ready and organized as you do not want to get flustered and waste the opportunity (not to mention the money) on the day itself. - The application forms for all the visas, whether Tier 1, Tier 2, or student, changes frequently, about 3 times a year. Although you can fill out your application form in advance, it is probably sensible to check the UK Border Agency's website for new copies of the application forms a week before your appointment to make sure you have the right one.
- While you can print your application form double-sided on A4 paper to save trees, to play it safe it is probably best to print single sided as the double-sided printing instructions are not clear.
- Keeping your documents is important! Even if your visa renewal or application is like a year away, you have to make sure you keep your payslips, bank statements, letters from your university/college, sufficient money, etc etc. One lost document can cause alot of hassle having to chase up for duplicate statements or payslips, as well as having to do more explaining in your application.
- Keep your application as straight forward as possible. Don't keep moving your maintenance fund money around between different accounts. In fact, you might even want to open a brand new account, deposit £800 in it, and never touch that account for 3 months.
